This page is here to help you out if you're charting vocals for a song in a different language from English.
General Info
Some languages are traditionally written in a different alphabet, such as Kanji or Cyrillic. Since these letters won't show up properly in-game, you'll want to romanize the lyrics, finding out how they would be written using the Latin alphabet used in English, Spanish and so on. Many lyric websites have the romanized lyrics for songs available, and there also exist online converters that will help convert it for you.
Japanese
It is common in modern Japanese, like a lot of languages, to loan certain English words. However, in Japanese these words will sometimes be pronounced very differently than they would in American or British English, for example splitting a word into more syllables than usual.
Some words that would be pronounced as one syllable in English grammar will be pronounced as multiple syllables in Japanese. For example, “nai” is pronounced “na- i”.
Some words such as “desu” might have a silent U at the end. Either write it as “desu” or “des'” in the lyrics, depending on what makes more sense in-game.
Spanish/Italian
If two words are sung in the same note without any gaps between, add a § sign to the end of the first lyric to signify this in the in-game lyrics HUD.
Norwegian/Swedish/Danish/Finnish/Icelandic
Letters like Æ, Ø, Å, Ö and Ä are commonly used in these languages, and are supported in Magma. This means you should NOT change the lyric encoding from default to make these show up in-game.
German
The letter ß is commonly used in German, and is supported in Magma. This means you should NOT change the lyric encoding from default to make it show up in-game.
